CD and DVD

These are external storage devices, which can hold different types of data like audio file (mp3 files), video files (movies) or any document.

The most common size of CD-ROM disc is 120 mm in diameter and has a capacity to hold up to 700 MB of data. Whereas DVD is 12cm in diameter and has a capacity to hold up to 4.7GB of data. You also get DVD’s with more layers that can hold more GB of data than the above mentioned.

As the name says external devices are used to take backup of data (audio or video) that can be stored and used for later reference.

You get blank CD/DVD’s which are read only ( i.e., once you store data in to the CD/DVD you can not erase and store on it again) and read/write ( i.e., you can erase the existing content and store data again )
To write/store data in to CD/DVD’s you can use software like NEURO or you can also write using windows wizard.

On the CPU of the computer you can find CD/DVD slot.
Notice there is a button that you can press to open the CD/DVD drive and when you press the button a “holder” for the CD/DVD slides out. Place the CD/DVD in the holder- the side with words goes up-and press the button again to have the holder retract in to the tower.

To take the CD/DVD out, just press the button again ,take out your CD/DVD, and close the drive by pressing the button one more time.
